PLANT‑0045 embodies a seamless fusion of organic curvature and precision-cut lattice, reimagining the planter as both vessel and sculpture. The form begins with a gently bulging toroidal silhouette, its continuous curve invoking natural growth patterns found in gourds or seed pods. Layered atop this base are vertical ribs—alternating solid and openwork panels—that rise from the lower hemisphere toward the rim, gradually tapering to create a sense of upward momentum. The interplay between mass and void generates a dynamic chiaroscuro: sunlight filters through the openwork ribs, casting intricate shadow patterns that shift with the day, while the solid ribs anchor the composition and provide tactile contrast.

Materially, the matte ebony finish emphasizes the silhouette’s purity, allowing the geometry to take visual precedence while offering a subdued backdrop for vibrant foliage. Functionally, the wide mouth facilitates planting and care, while the low center of gravity ensures stability even when displayed on floating shelves or slender pedestals. How are the planter made?

Modern 3D printing technology is used to produce the UPETAL 3DESIGN planter.

This is how the extraordinary and delicate structure of the planter can be created - while at the same time being very light. We paid particular attention to sustainability and quality when it came to the material used. - a bio-plastic made from corn starch - we have paid particular attention to sustainability and quality.

What material are the planter made of?

The 3D planter from UPETAL 3DESIGN are made of polylactide (PLA for short), which is also colloquially known as polylactic acid and is often referred to as ''o-plastic''. PLA is made up of lactic acid molecules that are created during the fermentation of corn starch or sugar cane.

Although PLA does not grow on trees or bushes and is therefore produced synthetically, it is biodegradable due to its ingredients and is therefore a great alternative to non-degradable plastic with similar properties.

Why are high temperatures damaging the planter?

If the planter is exposed to high temperatures (e.g. in direct sunlight behind a window), the material can lose stability, causing the planter to warp. A series of tests carried out over a few weeks came to the conclusion that this can happen , but does not happen in every case.

However, we expressly point out that there is a possibility that the planter can deform at temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

Can I put water in the planter ?

TThe 3D printed planter itself is not waterproof due to its manufacturing process, and water may seep out from the planter. We recommend using this planter for displaying dried flowers.
