PLANT‑0017 PLANTER

The PLANT‑0017 geometric planter captures a sense of dynamic motion through its cascading array of sinuous vertical ribs. Each rib flows in a continuous wave from rim to base, creating a swirling pattern that evokes natural phenomena such as wind‑blown grasses or water’s rippling surface. The ribs are gently twisted around the vessel’s circumference, generating a three‑dimensional relief that alternates between convex bulges and concave troughs. This undulating surface plays with light and shadow—highlights graze the crest of each wave while shadows pool in the folds, giving the planter a living, kinetic quality. Proportions are carefully balanced: at 11 cm tall and 16 cm in diameter, the piece feels both grounded and expressive on shelves, consoles, or window sills. The slightly scalloped rim, formed by the crest lines of the ribs, frames emerging foliage and draws the eye inward to the plant’s growth. Conceptually, PLANT‑0017 reframes the planter as an active participant in the space—its dynamic geometry mirrors the organic vitality of the plant it contains. Tactile exploration is encouraged as hands trace the smooth, twisting contours, experiencing the sculptural tension between solidity and fluidity. By merging architectural precision with biomorphic movement, this design transcends mere function to become a focal sculpture—one that animates interiors through evolving light, textural contrast, and an intimate dialogue between human touch, crafted form, and living greenery.

How are the planter made?

Modern 3D printing technology is used to produce the UPETAL 3DESIGN planter.

This is how the extraordinary and delicate structure of the planter can be created - while at the same time being very light. We paid particular attention to sustainability and quality when it came to the material used. - a bio-plastic made from corn starch - we have paid particular attention to sustainability and quality.

What material are the planter made of?

The 3D planter from UPETAL 3DESIGN are made of polylactide (PLA for short), which is also colloquially known as polylactic acid and is often referred to as  ''o-plastic''. PLA is made up of lactic acid molecules that are created during the fermentation of corn starch or sugar cane.

Although PLA does not grow on trees or bushes and is therefore produced synthetically, it is biodegradable due to its ingredients and is therefore a great alternative to non-degradable plastic with similar properties.

Why are high temperatures damaging the planter?

If the planter is exposed to high temperatures (e.g. in direct sunlight behind a window), the material can lose stability, causing the planter to warp. A series of tests carried out over a few weeks came to the conclusion that this can happen , but does not happen in every case.

However, we expressly point out that there is a possibility that the planter can deform at temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

Can I put water in the planter ?

The 3D printing planter themselves are not waterproof due to their manufacturing process. Water would leak out through the planter. Since a planter wouldn't be a real planter if you couldn't offer a place to water a bouquet of fresh meadow flowers or a long-stemmed rose, there are our special waterproof inserts. Such an insert is supplied free of charge with every planter.

The insert is cylindrical and can be filled with water. Due to its narrow shape, it only has slightly less filling volume than the actual planter. So remember to place the insert before using the planter with water.

If the planter is only filled with dried flowers, you obviously do not need it - but you should of course keep it.
